It's just after 2:00am on the last day of 2011, and instead of sleeping like a normal person, I'm blogging. This year has flown by, and this blog--sadly--has been neglected for the majority of that time. Sorry 'bout that. (Cue the excuses.) For the most part, our lives just don't seem that interesting - we go to class, go to work, make dinner, do homework, lather, rinse, repeat. But then when life does get more interesting, we're so busy running around like chickens with our heads cut off that blogging is the last thing on our minds. So here I sit, at 2 in the morning, to write a brief (ahem) update on how our lives have been going.
(Deep breath.) Here goes:
Part newlywed updates, part recipes, and part late-night ramblings. Hope you enjoy this window into our crazy, busy, wonderful life!

Happy Birthday to Darren!
This last weekend (after Michelle frantically hosted a Stampin' Up! workshop Saturday morning--fun!), we headed up to Centerville to spend the weekend with Darren's parents and celebrate his birthday.

4th of July Celebrations! (aka: more food!)
Hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend. How wonderful it is to get to live in such a land as this and to enjoy the freedoms that we do. Thank you to all the service men and women who give their all to preserve the liberties we hold so dear! (And a special thank-you/shout-out to those that I know personally: my brother, John, and my cousin, Brad--thank you for your service and your sacrifice.)
So how did Darren and I celebrate this 4th of July weekend? We saw some fireworks over the weekend, which isn't surprising when you consider the fact that aerial fireworks just became legal here in Utah County. But mostly we just enjoyed our time off work. And ate food. Good food.

Two months already?!
Wow, it's hard to believe that Darren and I have been married for two whole months! As my father-in-law keeps telling us, now our "learner's permit" has expired and we're stuck with each other. Oh, darn... ;)
Things are going really well for us here in Provo. Darren's still working, and I'm absolutely loving my internship with Cedar Fort (publishing company in Springville). It sounds like I might even have a job in line there once I graduate (if not sooner...!) The apartment is great, too. We've really settled in

We're here!
After a wonderful wedding day in gorgeously sunny northern California--including perfect weather at the Oakland Temple and a beautiful reception that evening in Brentwood--and then a fun-filled honeymoon in even more gloriously sunny southern California (Disneyland!!!), Darren and I are back in cold, wet Utah. Okay, I admit--the weather hasn't been all terrible. We've had a few good warm days. But it's mostly cold and wet here.
Oh, and we had our second reception here in Utah. It was lovely! It was

Wow, it's been a while...
Time has just flown by this semester! Darren and I have both been completely swamped with work and school and projects and planning and--suffice it to say that blogging completely fell to the bottom of our priorities. I had someone the other day in class ask me when I'm getting married, and I thought about it and was shocked when I responded "Next weekend!" How on earth did it get here so fast?! There's no way we got everything done! Ahh! Panic!

Wedding Plans Update
It's been a while since we've posted anything here, so here's a general update. We've booked both - yes, both - reception sites: the LDS Chapel in Antioch/Brentwood and the Eldredge Manor in Centerville. Plans for food, decorations, photography, etc., are well underway, which is very exciting. Hotels and flights are booked and ready to go. We're at about 10 weeks out until the wedding now, so things are coming together.
